Privacy Policy

OTT Games ("OTT Games", "we", "us") lets people play party games together using a TV as the shared screen and phones as controllers. This policy explains what data we handle when you use the games at ottgames.app and our website, why, and your choices. We've written it to match what the product actually does.
1. Information we handle
Information you provide
- Display name. The nickname you type when joining a game. It is shown on the TV and to other players in the room. Use any name you like — it doesn't have to identify you.
- In‑game messages. Emoji reactions and short text comments you send appear on the TV with your display name. These live only in the temporary game session and are deleted automatically within seconds.
- Feedback. If you use the "Feedback" button, we store your rating and message so the builders can read it.
- Email (optional). If you choose "notify me," we record the email from your Google sign‑in so we can tell you when a feature ships. This is entirely optional.
Information collected automatically
- Game activity. When a game ends we keep a record of the match — the game played, number of players, players' display names, scores, and how long it lasted — to power our internal reports and improve the games.
- A device identifier. A random value stored in your browser (
ott_device) so a phone can leave at most one piece of feedback per game. It is not linked to your identity. - IP address. Stored with feedback submissions and used to rate‑limit abuse. It is not used to track you across sites.
- Usage analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand which games and pages are popular (e.g. page views, approximate location, device/browser type).
We do not ask players to create an account or set a password, and we do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information.
2. How we use it
- To run the games and show names, reactions and scores in your room.
- To prevent spam and abuse (rate‑limiting, one‑feedback‑per‑device).
- To read your feedback and improve the games and content.
- To produce aggregate, internal reports about how OTT Games is used.
- To email you about a requested feature — only if you opted in.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Cookies & local storage
We keep things minimal:
| Name | Type | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| ott_device | localStorage | One‑feedback‑per‑game limit |
| ott_muted | localStorage | Remembers the TV's mute setting |
| name_… / pid_… | sessionStorage | Keeps you in your current game (cleared when the tab closes) |
| _ga / _ga_* | cookie | Google Analytics |
| ci_session, g_csrf_token | cookie | Admin sign‑in session and Google sign‑in security (only on the admin/sign‑in flow) |
4. Third parties we share data with
To provide the service we rely on a few processors, and only share what each needs:
- Google — Analytics (usage data) and "Sign in with Google" (to verify your email for admin access or the feedback notify opt‑in).
- OpenAI — to read a reaction/comment aloud on the TV (the short text is sent for speech synthesis) and to help generate game content.
- Anthropic — to help generate game content (text only).
- QR Server (goqr.me) — the "scan to join" QR image is generated from your room's join link (a 4‑letter code), which is sent to this service.
- Advertising. Games are free and supported by short ad breaks; ad providers on your TV platform (e.g. Roku, Fire TV) may collect data under their own policies.
5. How long we keep it
- Live game data (room state, your name, reactions) is stored only for the session and expires automatically — typically within an hour, and reactions within seconds.
- Match records and feedback are kept until they are no longer needed for the purposes above. You can ask us to delete your feedback (and any email) at any time.
6. Your choices & rights
- Pick any display name — it need not identify you.
- Skip the feedback form and the email opt‑in entirely.
- Request access to, or deletion of, feedback or an email you gave us by contacting ottengine.inc@gmail.com.
- Use your browser settings or a Google Analytics opt‑out to limit analytics.
7. Children
OTT Games is designed to be family‑friendly and is meant to be played together in one room. Players are pseudonymous and we don't require accounts. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond a chosen display name and in‑game play. If you believe a child has provided us personal information (such as an email), contact us and we'll remove it.
8. Security
The site is served over HTTPS, inputs are validated and stored using parameterised database queries, and admin pages are restricted to a single authorised Google account. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
9. Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. We'll revise the "last updated" date above when we do.
